Where is the Quba Mosque and what is the importance of it?

Quba mosque located in Quba village is a one hour walk away from Madinah. It was built during the Prophet Mohammed’s (peace be upon him) Hijrah and has a highly important meaning in Islamic history.

During Hijrah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed in Quba for 3 to 4 days with Abu Bakr before arriving in Medinah. According to another version, they stayed there for 13-14 days. During his stay in Mina, he ordered a mosque be built in Quba and then they built a small mosque with his personal labor contribution. It became the first mosque of Islam mentioned in the Holy Qur’an by saying ”Do not stand [for prayer] within it - ever. A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in. Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves. “ (At-Tawbah,108) Muslims gathered there and prayed as one.

Due to the sanctity of Quba, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to visit and prayed there in every Saturday while he was in Medinah. It was said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever goes out until he comes to this mosque – meaning Quba mosque – and prays there, that will be equivalent to Umrah sawab.'

During Hajj session, pilgrims visit Quba mosque after visiting the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) grave.
